Virtuoso music by Handel, Purcell, Rameau, and Vivaldi meets the voices and poetry of 18th-century Caribbean colonies in this celebration of shared humanity. “Master musical storyteller” (Seen and Heard International) Jeannette Sorrell leads the Grammy-winning Baroque ensemble Apollo’s Fire with world-renowned Trinidadian singer Jeanine De Bique, “one of the most exciting sopranos” (OperaWire). From a flirtatious Rameau aria to music from a Creole wedding celebration, tales of love, despair, and resilience emerge in a singular journey between Europe and the Caribbean.
