Hear why Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe are renowned worldwide for “everything that makes for good and exciting Brahms: the drive, the breath, the articulation, the rhetoric, and all the composer’s heart-tugging lyricism” (Luxembourg’s Pizzicato). Together, across four seasons at Carnegie Hall, they perform each of Brahms’s four symphonies and concertos, making a strong case for the benefit of hearing his works performed by mid-sized ensembles. “The gains in clarity and litheness from using a smaller body of strings are obvious from the very start … The authority and the quality of the performances are unmistakable,” The Guardian says of their performance. This season, pianist extraordinaire Beatrice Rana serves as soloist in the heart-stopping concerto portion of the program.
