Yulianna Avdeeva, Piano
Enjoy some of the piano repertoire’s greatest musical miniatures, performed by an artist whose interpretations “are truly to be reckoned with” (Gramophone). Yulianna Avdeeva’s brilliance as a Chopin player is well-documented—she’s one of only 18 first-prize winners in 100 years of the International Chopin Piano Competition, “the Olympics of the piano world” (The New York Times). More recently, her worldwide acclaim in this genre has grown to include the music of fellow pianist and Chopin competitor Shostakovich, who won an “honorary mention” in the festival’s inaugural year, and whose selected preludes and fugues are featured on tonight’s program.
