Sir Simon Rattle
Sir Simon Rattle by Oliver Helbig

Sir Simon Rattle conducts the famously versatile orchestra of the Met Opera. The program begins with Janáček’s spirited Sinfonietta, an energetic work with exacting demands of its expanded brass section. With patriotic fanfares and numerous folk references, it salutes the composer’s native Czechoslovakia over the course of five movements in approximately 25 minutes. Then, hear Bruckner’s monumental Symphony No. 7, a piece for which Rattle is widely celebrated and which The Met Orchestra chose for its first-ever Bruckner symphony performance in 2019. It is a work of stunning breadth, drama, and lyricism, with a breathtaking slow movement that pays tribute to the composer’s idol, Wagner.
