Evgeny Kissin by Mascia Sergievskaia

Hear an all-Beethoven recital performed by master pianist Evgeny Kissin. The program opens with Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 1, a fiery testament to the composer’s early genius on the keyboard. It’s followed by his experimental Piano Sonata No. 13, the Op. 27 companion piece to the “Moonlight Sonata.” Kissin then performs Beethoven’s monumental and virtuosic Diabelli Variations, in which the composer elevates a slight waltz tune into a colossal set of variations that journey from the comic to the tragic and profound.
