Born in Paderborn, Germany, Maren Rothfritz began her violin studies at the age of four. At 16, she entered the Hochschule für Musik Detmold; one year later, she joined the viola class of Diemut Poppen. From 2011–2013, she was a student at the Queen Sofía College of Music in Madrid. During this time, she was awarded prizes as a member of string and piano quartets. In 2013, she also gave a recital in the National Auditorium of Music in Madrid and competed in the ARD International Music Competition.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in 2013, Maren studied for a year with Nobuko Imai at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam before moving to the US, where she completed her master’s degree with a focus on music education at the New England Conservatory with Kim Kashkashian. As part of her fellowship with Ensemble Connect, Maren teaches at City College Academy of the Arts in Manhattan.
