Flutist Leo Sussman grew up playing chamber music in living rooms and gigging with a youth salsa band in his hometown of San Francisco. He has since performed as a fellow at the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and Eastern Music Festival, as well as at the Banff Centre. Other recent appearances include a concerto performance with the Lawrence Symphony Orchestra, and new-music concerts at National Sawdust and Electronic Music Midwest.
Winner of top prizes in various regional competitions, Leo earned a master’s degree from Yale University, where he studied with Ransom Wilson and received an award from the Yale Alumni Association. He holds undergraduate degrees in music and physics from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, where he studied with Erin Lesser. As part of his fellowship with Ensemble Connect, Leo teaches at PS 200 Benson School in Brooklyn.
