CreativityWorksNYS offers grants of up to $18,000 to artists and arts organizations to conduct 18-week arts workshops that serve youth in the Brookwood Secure Center and Columbia Secure Center for Girls—facilities located in the mid-Hudson region of New York State. The program also aims to provide training, capacity building, and professional development support for arts organizations that work with young people who are justice-involved.
CreativityWorksNYS is a collaboration between the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), the New York State Council on the Arts, and Carnegie Hall.
The primary goal of CreativityWorksNYS is to engage justice-involved youth through arts-enrichment projects in a variety of creative disciplines, including music, theater, visual arts, poetry, and spoken word. Through collaborative arts projects, young people learn new skills, develop positive peer and adult relationships, and build a framework for successful reentry.
