CreativityWorksNYS offers grants of up to $9,000 to arts organizations to conduct nine-week arts workshops that serve youth in the Adirondack and Hudson correctional facilities—adolescent offender facilities located in Mid-Hudson and North Country, New York—that were created through New York State’s Raise the Age legislation. This program is a collaboration between the New York State Department of Corrections, the New York State Council on the Arts, and Carnegie Hall, which work closely with correctional facility staff to facilitate programming.
The primary goal of CreativityWorksNYS is to engage youth who are justice-involved through arts enrichment projects in a variety of creative disciplines that include music, theater, visual arts, poetry, and spoken word. Young people learn new skills, express their creative voices, and develop positive peer and adult relationships through collaborative arts projects. CreativityWorksNYS also aims to provide training, capacity building, and professional development support for arts organizations who work with justice-involved young people.
