Outstanding young American instrumentalists form NYO2, a free orchestra program that comes together alongside NYO-USA and NYO Jazz each summer for intensive training and performance opportunities. NYO2 has a particular focus on recruiting musicians from communities underrepresented in classical music. Participating musicians have the opportunity to work closely with top players from American orchestras and conservatories during a residency at Purchase College, SUNY, before NYO2’s performances.

In 2019, NYO2 returns to Miami Beach with conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto through a partnership with the New World Symphony. Performances at the New World Center and Carnegie Hall will feature pianist Gabriela Montero performing her own Piano Concerto No. 1, “Latin.”
