Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
Valery Gergiev conducts one of the world’s greatest orchestras in a three-concert residency at Carnegie Hall.
The residency begins on Friday with an all-Rachmaninoff concert comprising his Second Symphony and cherished Piano Concerto No. 2—an excellent showcase for pianist Denis Matsuev. Saturday’s performance includes soaring and evocative works by Debussy, Ravel, and Rimsky-Korsakov. An extraordinary weekend of music concludes with two Russian masterpieces: Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique,” and selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet ballet.
