Author Ernest Hemingway speaks at the American Writers Congress at Carnegie Hall on June 4, delivering a seven-minute speech titled "Fascism Is a Lie." In it he denounces native and foreign Fascists operating in Spain.

Hemingway's speech was published in the June 1937 edition of New Masses and republished later that year, together with the other speeches from the Writers Congress, by Equinox Cooperative Press in The Writer in a Changing World.
