• 2017 Residency and Tour

The members of NYO-USA spend the first three weeks of each season on the campus of Purchase College, SUNY. Located in Westchester County just north of New York City, Purchase College has outstanding rehearsal, performance, and residential facilities, including a highly regarded performing arts center that will be the center of musical activities during the residency. The residency includes sectional and full orchestra rehearsals, workshops on musical and non-musical topics designed to complement the focus on tour repertoire, and social/recreational activities, capped by a performance and recording of NPR’s classical music public radio show From the Top with Host Christopher O'Riley at The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College and a performance at Carnegie Hall.

Following the Carnegie Hall performance, the orchestra embarks on a two-week tour that takes them to Mexico, Ecuador, and Colombia, led by conductor Marin Alsop, performing music by Mahler, John Adams, and a piece commissioned specifically for NYO-USA by Gabriela Lena Frank. The orchestra will also have significant interaction with local youth orchestras, including side-by-side performances in Mexico and Colombia.
