• Creative Learning Projects 

    Every season, the Weill Music Institute invites some of the top choirs in the New York City area to participate in a special yearlong learning experience that culminates in a performance at Carnegie Hall with some of the most remarkable musicians in the world. Choirs and choral directors involved take part in rehearsals and workshops and create special bonds with their peers from around the city. Select students take part in intensive composition workshops with professional composers, exploring the themes and structures of the featured repertoire.

    Ellington's Sacred Music
    This creative learning project shined the spotlight on Duke Ellington’s sacred music, some of the most ambitious and heartfelt music of his legendary career. Tying together elements of jazz and classical music with African American spirituals and gospel music, Ellington’s compositions crossed the lines dividing secular and religious genres, while punctuating the ever-expanding role of jazz in America and throughout the world.

    La Pasión Según San Marcos
    La Pasión según San Marcos brought together 120 New York City high school singers, members of the Schola Cantorum de Venezuela Choir, professional soloists and the Orquesta la Pasión.

    The Carmina Burana Choral Project
    The Carmina Burana Choral Project features 200 high school singers and 50 middle school singers from all over New York City with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s conducted by David Robertson.
