Parissa , known as one of the foremost female vocalists from Iran and for her command of the classical and Sufi genres of Persian music, performs both centuries-old Persian works and brings a fresh approach to rarely heard songs of the past century on Friday, November 8 at 8:30 p.m. when she is joined by the Dastan Ensemble in Zankel Hall. This performance, presented by Carnegie Hall in partnership with Robert Browning Associates, is part of the singer’s Eastern US tour and features works from her recently recorded album, A Tale of the Heart, as well as previous works from Parissa’s collaboration with the Dastan Ensemble. The Dastan Ensemble—which features Hamid Motebassem (tar), Hossein Behroozinia (barbat), Saeed Farajpouri (kamanche), and percussionists Hamin Honari and Arjang Ataollahi—has grown to be one Iran’s premier traditional music ensembles. They have performed in numerous prestigious festivals and in concert halls throughout the world. This tour marks the third Parissa–Dastan collaboration.

Opened in September 2003, Zankel Hall—Carnegie Hall’s modern, underground performance space—celebrates its tenth anniversary this season with concerts that reflect the wide variety of music for which the venue has become known, including appearances by up-and-coming and established artists in the classical, jazz, world music, and pop genres.
