Connections: Ensemble Connect and Decoda
Celebrate classical music’s bright future with two ensembles known for their virtuosity, curiosity, and sense of adventure. Across three programs, Ensemble Connect performs chamber works by Bartók, Brahms, Coleridge-Taylor, Copland, Dvořák, Ligeti, Loeffler, and Kodály; a New York premiere by Hannah Ishizaki; and works by leading contemporary composers Reena Esmail, Jennifer Higdon, and Caroline Shaw, holder of Carnegie Hall’s 2026–2027 Debs Composer’s Chair. Shaw’s works are also performed by Decoda, Carnegie Hall’s first affiliate ensemble, alongside works by Berio, Björk, and Britten; a New York premiere by Viet Cuong; and an original work created by the ensemble after Gustav Mahler.
Cross Currents
This three-concert, genre-crossing journey for the culturally curious begins with a song cycle by Gabriel Kahane, “one of the finest, most searching songwriters of the day” (The New Yorker). Then, hear a new large-scale creation by the perpetually groundbreaking Kronos Quartet, who in the past 50 years have commissioned more than 1,200 original works and sold more records than any string quartet in history. Finally, experience the world premiere of a time-traveling, semi-staged collaboration between Ringdown—the duo of visionary composer Caroline Shaw and multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Danni Lee Parpan—and Decoda, Carnegie Hall’s first-ever affiliate ensemble.
Fast Forward I
Experience several of today’s most exciting composers and performers. The prolific American Composers Orchestra performs its latest program of premieres—an ambitious staple of each Carnegie Hall season. The Attacca Quartet and Pulitzer Prize–winning composer, violist, and singer Caroline Shaw continue their Grammy-winning collaboration. Third Coast Percussion—known for “constantly redefin[ing] the classical music experience” (Forbes)—performs reimagined works by Philip Glass, Mozart, and visionary composer-performer Jlin; a New York premiere by David Longstreth; and more.
Fast Forward II
In a three-concert series designed for those who seek musical adventure and discovery, experience the final chapter of cellist Alisa Weilerstein’s immersive FRAGMENTS series; a program of premieres by the prolific American Composers Orchestra; and the New York premiere of David Lang’s multimedia work before and after nature, performed by the Bang on a Can All-Stars and choir with visual projections by Tal Rosner.
Juilliard at Zankel Hall
Discover a new generation of gifted artists from The Juilliard School in the immersive and versatile Zankel Hall. Dynamic programs, shaped by the creative insight of Juilliard’s Arnhold Creative Associates—including Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Caroline Shaw—celebrate the school’s unique blend of tradition and innovation. Together, these two premier New York City cultural institutions highlight the vibrant future of music, dance, and drama.
The Knights
Led by Colin Jacobsen and Eric Jacobsen, The Knights expand classical music’s boundaries with innovative programming, exuberant performances, and insatiable curiosity. This season, The Knights welcome eminent pianist Emanuel Ax in a program of Mozart’s piano concertos and more. They perform Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, works by Purcell, and a New York premiere by Nico Muhly in a must-hear collaboration with the similarly adventurous and beloved Brooklyn Rider string quartet. The series concludes with an amazingly wide-ranging program that includes an orchestral suite by J. S. Bach, Stravinsky’s Concerto in D; Geminiani’s Concerto Grosso in D Minor (after Corelli's Violin Sonata Op. 5, No. 12, "Folia"); and The Mountain That Loved a Bird by Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Caroline Shaw.
