Music Director Mark Shapiro conducts The Cecilia Chorus of New York with orchestra and soloists in two valedictory works: Dame Ethel Smyth’s The Prison (1930) and Mozart’s Requiem. Smyth and librettist Henry Brewster grapple with spiritual liberation in a dialogue between “The Soul” (Chelsea Shephard) and “The Prisoner” (Tobias Greenhalgh‘s Carnegie Hall debut), with choral commentary. Four soloists make Carnegie Hall debuts in Mozart's Requiem as recently completed by musicologist Robert Levin.
