This program of Gentle Giants opens with Arvo Pärt’s Fratres, a mystical journey inspired by Gregorian chant and church bells. Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii presents an intimate version of Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto in a new arrangement by Shuying Li. Tchaikovsky bared his sensitive soul in the String Quartet No. 1; now composer Christopher Theofanidis grows Tchaikovsky’s introspective essay into a Chamber Symphony using expanded arrangements that amplify the ardent emotions.
