Paul Appleby by Jonathan Tichler
Versatility, polished vocal tone, and interpretive depth are but a few of tenor Paul Appleby’s hallmarks, and he uses them all in this recital of songs that span the 19th century to the present day. The selections from Schubert’s posthumously published Schwanengesang are masterpieces that ponder nature, love, and loss. Britten’s Winter Words explores a tremendous range of emotions in eight songs set to poetry of Thomas Hardy unfold as miniature dramas with brilliant clarity and detailed word painting.
