Yannick Nézet-Séguin continues his complete cycle of Mahler symphonies with the Fourth—a masterpiece that Mahler himself conducted twice at Carnegie Hall. Though lighter in tone and shorter in length than most of his symphonic works, it contains some of the cycle’s most memorable moments—including a heavenly vocal part in the fourth movement, performed this evening by renowned soprano Christiane Karg. The Vienna Philharmonic also welcomes virtuoso Yuja Wang to perform the fiery solo part of Prokofiev’s most popular concerto: the energetic Piano Concerto No. 3.
