The A to Z of Carnegie Hall: L is for Live from Carnegie Hall

Next up in our summer-long A to Z of Carnegie Hall series is the letter L for "live"—as in, "live" from Carnegie Hall.

L is for Live from Carnegie Hall

Over the last 50 years, in particular, many dozens of live albums recorded at Carnegie Hall have been made. Classical, rock, pop, jazz, folk, world music, musical theater, country music, and stand-up comedy concerts have all been captured and commercially released.

Some of the most iconic names in music and comedy over the past 100 years have released live albums recorded at the Hall. They include Judy Garland, Lenny Bruce, Miles Davis, the recently deceased Chavela Vargas, Lang Lang, Paul Robeson, Billie Holiday, Frank Zappa, and Isaac Stern—who also featured on the Concert of the Century album with classical music giants Leonard Bernstein, Mstislav Rostropovich, Vladimir Horowitz, Yehudi Menuhin, and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.
