Amjad Ali Khan, Amaan Ali Bangash & Ayaan Ali Bangash / Lidiya Yankovskaya with the Refugee Orchestra Project in Concert

Monday, August 15, 2022 7 PM Zankel Hall
In the third and final India at 75 event at Carnegie Hall, this concert celebrates the wonderful mystery of Indian classical music and a synthesis of musical traditions motivated by Mahatma Gandhi’s message of truth, love, non-violence, and peace. Sarod grand master Amjad Ali Khan performs a traditional raga with fellow sarod greats Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, as well as tabla accompaniment by Ojas Adhiya and Amit Kavthekar. In the second half of the concert, they are joined by the Refugee Orchestra Project, which showcases the vitally important role of refugees in the cultural wealth of the United States. Together they perform Samaagam—Concerto for 3 Sarods, which preserves the essence of both Indian and Western traditions through 12 different ragas. This powerful collaboration has been part of many notable events, including the Nobel Peace Prize Concert and United Nations Day. Don’t miss the chance to hear it in the intimacy of Zankel Hall.
