Nobuyuki Tsujii, Piano

Friday, March 21, 2025 8 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage
Nobuyuki Tsujii by Giorgia Bertazzi
Nobuyuki Tsujii performs music by three of the piano’s greatest composers. The instrument takes full flight at the start of Beethoven’s “Waldstein” Sonata, a virtuosic piece from the composer’s heroic era. We then hear the first (and most popular) of Liszt’s Mephistowaltzes, evoking an ecstatic dance sequence through the woods. To round out the program, Tsujii performs two of Chopin’s most alluring nocturnes, followed by the exceptionally challenging Piano Sonata No. 3—a piece as notable for its incredible nuance and restraint as it is for its virtuosic finale.
