John Monsky is the creator, writer, and narrator of the American History Unbound series. His reverence for historical ephemera is at the core of his productions, with his meticulous research of flags and other tangible objects driving his narratives that explore landmark events in our history. He recently appeared at the John F. Kennedy Center Opera House, following sold-out lectures of The Vietnam War: At Home and Abroad (2018), We Chose to Go to the Moon (2019), and The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE Day (2021) at Carnegie Hall.

In 2019, Monsky was honored by the New-York Historical Society, where he has developed and workshopped many of his lectures and serves as co-vice chair. He recently appeared on CNN and wrote an op-ed piece for The New York Times, providing historical perspective on current events. The flag collection, which Monsky began as a child with a kerchief carried by President Theodore Roosevelt, has been reported on in both The New Yorker and Art & Antiques Magazine.

Monsky graduated from Yale College as a history major, where he was awarded the White Prize in History and the Deforest Oratory Prize. After attending Harvard Law School and working as a law clerk, he served as an attorney for the US Senate Congressional Committee that investigated the Iran-Contra affair.

Monsky is a partner and general counsel of Oak Hill Capital, an investment firm. He lives in New York City with his wife, Jennifer Weis. They have four children—Harrison, Annabel, Gillian, and Caitlin—as well as dogs Flag and Flyer.

Orchestra of St. Luke’s (OSL) grew from a group of virtuoso musicians performing chamber music concerts at Greenwich Village’s Church of St. Luke in the Fields in 1974. Regular seasons see OSL perform in diverse musical genres at New York’s major concert venues, drawing on an expanded roster for large-scale works, and collaborating with artists from Joshua Bell and Renée Fleming to Bono and Metallica. Ian Weinberger is the music director of Hamilton on Broadway. He is a proud member of the hip-hop improv group Freestyle Love Supreme, with whom he performed on Broadway and Off-Broadway, at the Kennedy Center, and on the Tony Awards. New York credits include Chess, A New Brain, Titanic (Lincoln Center), Nobody Loves You, and the premiere presentation of The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE Day at Carnegie Hall. Other new works include The Secret of My Success (Paramount Theatre) and Titanic (Hangar Theatre). His arrangements and orchestrations of Titanic and Disney’s Moana Jr. have been heard in productions around the world. Other Broadway and Off-Broadway orchestras he has conducted and/or served as keyboardist include The Book of Mormon, Kinky Boots, Rocky the Musical, Side Show, Chaplin, and Little Miss Sunshine. Television credits include Fosse/Verdon, Peter Pan Live!, and The Sound of Music Live!. Cast recordings include The Christmas Schooner, A New Brain, and The Theory of Relativity. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music education and percussion performance from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in jazz piano from New York University.

Stephanie Jae Park currently plays Eliza in the Broadway production of Hamilton. A celebrated actress and vocalist, Kate Rockwell has been performing in American History Unbound presentations and lectures for nearly a decade, including 2021’s The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE Day. She starred as the original Karen Smith in Mean Girls: The Musical, which garnered her a Drama Desk Award nomination. Her previous Broadway credits include originating the role of Skylar in Bring It On: The Musical, as well as roles in Rock of Ages, Hair, and Legally Blonde. She’s been seen recently as Anna on Amazon Prime’s Harlem, Nina Bennett on Fox’s Almost Family, Blue Bloods, High Maintenance, Deadbeat, and Sex and the City: The Movie. Nicholas Rodriguez has had an extensive career on Broadway, film, and the concert stage. He was recently seen in the Tony Award–winning revival of Company opposite Patti LuPone and Katrina Lenk, and recently toured the US as Captain Georg von Trapp in The Sound of Music, directed by Jack O’Brien. Rodriguez made his Broadway debut in Disney’s production of Tarzan. Off-Broadway he’s been seen in The Toxic Avenger, Almost Heaven: Songs of John Denver, Death for Five Voices, Colette Collage, and Bajour. Rodriguez has also traveled the world on tours of Jesus Christ Superstar (Jesus), Evita (Che), and Hair (Claude). Peter Flynn is a New York–based, award-winning director who specializes in the development of new works as well as staging classic American musicals both in New York and with some of the most notable regional theaters in the country.
