Mark Padmore, Tenor
Mitsuko Uchida, Piano

Friday, March 15, 2024 7:30 PM Zankel Hall
Mark Padmore and Mitsuko Uchida by Justin Pumfrey
Pianist Mitsuko Uchida and tenor Mark Padmore perform one of the greatest of all song cycles: Schubert’s Winterreise. Across 24 soul-stirring songs, listeners are transported to the tragic world of a wanderer in a harrowing winter landscape. Uchida and Padmore are leading experts in this music, and their partnership is renowned. “Of all the great piano soloists turned accompanists in this music, [Uchida] remains the most interesting. Padmore meanwhile [makes] this a vocal journey of existential discovery alongside a textbook lesson in dynamics and the treatment of words” (The Guardian).
