Evgeny Kissin, Piano

Saturday, May 17, 2025 8 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage
Evgeny Kissin by Johann Sebastian Hänel / DG
Pianist Evgeny Kissin is a master of his craft, an artist whose rare technical mastery lives in complete service of his great interpretive and programmatic ambitions. He begins the recital with Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 7 in D Major, a dramatically charged and pointedly virtuosic piece with innovations both technical and compositional. Shorter works by Chopin follow, including several of the mysterious and ruminative nocturnes and the bright and boisterous Polonaise in A Major, Op. 40, No. 1. In the second half of the program, Kissin launches a three-concert celebration of Shostakovich with the composer’s turbulent Second Piano Sonata and selections from 24 Preludes and Fugues, Op. 87.
