THE NEW YORK POPS Friday, November 18, 2022 at 8:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) Music Director Steve Reineke leads The New York Pops in a celebration of Broadway’s biggest hits joined by a quartet of stars from the stage—Nikki Renée DanielsJordan Donica, 2022 Tony Award-winner Matt Doyle, and Melissa Errico—plus Judith Clurman’s Essential Voices USA. The evening’s program includes iconic songs from The Phantom of the OperaThe WizLes MisérablesMy Fair Lady,Oklahoma!Miss SaigonThe Sound of Music, and more. 


SOMI Friday, November 18, 2022 at 9:00 PM (Zankel Hall) Offering a transatlantic mix of modern jazz, soul, and African pop, Somi “creates an elegant amalgam of the musics and bi-continental experiences that have shaped her life” (NPR). For this special performance, her Carnegie Hall debut, she presents new electro-acoustic chamber arrangements of music from her latest album Zenzile: The Reimagination of Miriam Makeba and a retrospective of her most beloved repertoire.


BRENTANO STRING QUARTET Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 7:30 PM (Zankel Hall) In its return to Zankel Hall, the Brentano String Quartet performs string quartets by Haydn, Bartók, and Fanny Mendelssohn. This performance will be heard live by listeners around the world through the Carnegie Hall Live broadcast and digital series, created in partnership with WQXR. Co-hosted by WQXR’s Jeff Spurgeon and New Sound's John Schaefer, the concert will be broadcast on WQXR 105.9 FM in New York and streamed online at wqxr.org and carnegiehall.org/wqxr.


HÉLÈNE GRIMAUD, Piano Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 8:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) Pianist Hélène Grimaud presents a recital program with selections drawn from her Deutsche Grammophon recording, Memory, including music by Debussy, Satie, Chopin, and Valentin Silvestrov, paired with Robert Schumann’s Kreisleriana.


AUDRA MCDONALD Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 8:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) Emmy-, Tony-, and Grammy Award-winner Audra McDonald makes her highly anticipated return, headlining an evening that includes musical theater classics and lesser-known gems.


NOTES FROM UKRAINE Presented by The Ukrainian Institute – Kyiv, Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival & Razom in association with Carnegie Hall Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 2:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) In 1919, the Ukrainian Republic Capella, the national choir of the newly independent Ukrainian National Republic, embarked on a cultural diplomacy mission to spread awareness of a newly independent Ukrainian nation around the world. The first stop on the North American tour on October 5, 1922, the choir performed at Carnegie Hall. This momentous performance would mark the first time North American audiences heard Mykola Leontovych’s “Shchedryk”, a New Year’s song that would become the beloved Christmas classic, “Carol of the Bells.” This December, the Ukrainian Children’s Choir ShchedrykUkrainian Chorus Dumka of New York, and Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of North America celebrate the 100th Anniversary of this premiere along with other traditional Ukrainian Christmas songs, and contemporary choral works. The program also features special guests Janai Bruegger and Marichka Marczyk, and the Choir of Trinity Wall Street performing Ukrainian works influenced by English traditions and American composers with ties to Ukraine. The concert closes with a world premiere by composer Trevor Weston, setting the words of Ukrainian poet Serhiy Zhadan.


BROOKLYN RIDER Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 7:30 PM (Zankel Hall) Brooklyn Rider returns with a performance featuring the New York premiere of Akshaya Avril Tucker’s Hollow Flame for String Quartet (co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall) as well as Osvaldo Golijov’s Tenebraefor String Quartet; Reena Esmail’s Zeher (Poison); and string quartets by Shostakovich and Beethoven.


DANIIL TRIFONOV, Piano Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 8:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) Acclaimed pianist Danill Trifonov offers a program featuring Tchaikovsky’s Children’s Album along with works by Mozart, Robert Schumann, Ravel, and Scriabin.


GEORGE LI, Piano Friday, December 9, 2022 at 7:00 PM (Zankel Hall) After a remarkable first Carnegie Hall appearance in Weill Recital Hall at age 22, Tchaikovsky Competition medalist George Li takes the Zankel Hall stage with program to include Robert Schumann’s Arabeskein C Major and Davidsbündlertänze; Ravel’s Valses nobles et sentimentales; and Stravinsky’s Three Movements from Pétrouchka.


MIRÓ QUARTET Friday, December 9, 2022 at 7:00 PM (Weill Recital Hall) The Miró Quartet returns to Carnegie Hall to perform the New York premiere of Caroline Shaw’s Microfictions [Volume 1], a work co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall that was partially inspired by the surreal paintings of the quartet’s namesake, Joan Miró. This new work is paired with string quartets by Haydn and Dvořák.


A NIGHT OF INSPIRATION Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 8:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) Carnegie Hall presents the highly anticipated return of A Night of Inspiration, an uplifting evening of music, dance, and spoken word from diverse traditions. Under the direction of acclaimed producer, composer, and music director Ray Chew, and co-produced with his wife and business partner, Vivian Scott Chew, the exciting program features an all-star roster of artists from around the globe including Lauren AlainaRegina Belle, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Erica Campbell, Jekalyn Carr, Olen Cesari, Val ChmerkovskiyAnthony Hamilton, MAJOR., Donald Lawrence, Cantor Azi Schwartz, Tye Tribbett, and Bishop Hezekiah Walker. The stellar lineup will be accompanied by a 64-piece orchestra and a 150-voice multicultural choir, culminating in a special tribute to gospel great Richard Smallwood including a feature performance and 20-year celebration of his legendary song “Total Praise.” Dancing with the Stars veteran Val Chmerkovskiy also performs an original dance number to show solidarity with his fellow Ukrainians suffering though the war with Russia. Sherri Shepherd makes an appearance as one of the evening’s star presenters.


JOYCE DIDONATO MASTER CLASS Sunday, December 11 at 4:00 p.m. Monday, December 12 at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 13 at 4:00 p.m. (Resnick Education Wing) Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato returns for her much-anticipated series of master classes for young professional opera singers. Sopranos Anchal Indu Dhir and Marissa Moultrie, mezzo-soprano Rael Rent, tenor Lawrence Barasa, and baritone Łukasz Zientarski have been selected to participate in this year’s set of master classes. Collaborative pianists Justina Lee and Ken Noda will accompany the singers and provide additional coaching and support during the week. In addition to being open to the public, the master classes will be streamed live for opera lovers everywhere on Carnegie Hall's website and also on medici.tv. The videos will remain available on replay for one year following the classes. Additional private sessions and a career panel with experts from today’s opera industry complete the program. THE MET ORCHESTRA CHAMBER ENSEMBLE Monday, December 12, 2022 at 7:30 PM (Weill Recital Hall) The Met Orchestra Chamber Ensemble returns to Weill Recital Hall with a program that includes Brahms Trio in E-flat Major for Violin, Horn, and Piano, Op. 40; Dvořák’s Serenade in D Minor, Op. 44; and Villa-Lobos’s Assobio a Jato (The Jet Whistle), composed here in New York by the great Brazilian composer.


GET HAPPY: A JUDY GARLAND CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION Monday, December 12, 2022 at 8:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) Carnegie Hall presents Get Happy: A Judy Garland Centennial Celebration featuring Broadway stars Jessica Vosk alongside Andy Karl. Written by Robert Cary and Jonathan Tolins, and directed by Michael Arden with Music Director Mary-Mitchell Campbell, Get Happy celebrates the life and artistry of the legendary Judy Garland. Garland’s Carnegie Hall debut in 1961 has become one of the most storied evenings in the Hall’s history, with the live recording of this iconic performance going on to win five Grammy Awards, making Garland the first solo woman to win the coveted Album of the Year. On the heels of her sold-out Carnegie Hall concert last season, Jessica Vosk brings Garland’s unforgettable songbook back to life at the Hall, accompanied by an orchestra alongside rare performance footage of Garland herself in this one-night-only celebration of an artist whose legacy continues to inspire fans around the world.


THE PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 8:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) The Philadelphia Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin present a program with two superb soloists. After performing the New York premiere of Xi Wang’s Ensō, the orchestra showcases its principal clarinetist, Ricardo Morales, in Mozart’s indelible Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K. 622. The program concludes with Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 featuring soprano Pretty Yende.


ITZHAK PERLMAN AND FRIENDS Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 8:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) Violinist Itzhak Perlman is joined by an illustrious group of musical friends—pianists Emanuel Ax and Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and the Juilliard String Quartet—for a program of Leclair’s Sonata for Two Violins in E Minor, Op. 3, No. 5; Mozart’s Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, K. 493; and Chausson’s Concert for Violin, Piano, and String Quartet, Op. 21.


THE NEW YORK POPS Friday, December 16, 2022 at 8:00 PM Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 8:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) The New York Pops’s annual holiday tradition returns with two distinct special programs with indie pop star, singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson, featuring classic carols on Friday night. She returns the following evening with a program of contemporary selections from her holiday album, Songs for the Season, and other original hits.


NEW YORK STRING ORCHESTRA Saturday, December 24, 2022 at 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 8:00 PM (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage) The New York String Orchestra returns for its annual concerts conducted by Jamie Laredo. The orchestra’s Christmas Eve performance includes J. S. Bach’s Violin Concerto in A Minor, BWV 1041, with violinist Rubén Rengel; Mozart’s Divertimento in D Major, K. 136; Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro, Op. 47; and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings. The group’s second concert features Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major, "Emperor” with Jonathan Biss, plus Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1 “Classical,” and Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 “Scottish.”

Presented in partnership with esteemed community organizations, the Carnegie Hall Citywide concert series continues the Hall’s five-decade old tradition of bringing free performances representing all musical genres to venues throughout New York City, ensuring that great musical experiences are available to everyone.


CARNEGIE HALL CITYWIDE: MIGUEL ZENÓN AND LUIS PERDOMO Sunday, November 20 at 5:00 p.m. Our Saviour's Atonement Lutheran Church (178 Bennett Avenue 189th Street) | Manhattan Saxophonist Miguel Zenón and pianist Luis Perdomo are two of modern jazz’s finest musicians. They enthusiastically approach songs on their joint album El Arte del Bolero—primarily comprising Latin American music they’ve known all their lives—with a rare degree of familiarity that allows for genuine improvisatory freedom. In this free Carnegie Hall Citywide performance, hear the music that “answers the question” of “how good sax-and-piano duets [can] get” (JazzTimes).


CARNEGIE HALL CITYWIDE: CALIDORE STRING QUARTET AND BRIDGET KIBBEY Sunday, December 11, at 5:00 p.m. Our Saviour’s Atonement Lutheran Church 178 Bennett Avenue (at 189th Street) | Manhattan Over the past decade, the New York–based and internationally renowned Calidore String Quartet has established itself as one of the most reputable chamber ensembles. “Four more individual musicians are unimaginable,” and yet even across an impressively wide range of repertoire, they “speak, breathe, think, and feel as one” (The Washington Post). In this free performance, the quartet joins forces with boundary-demolishing harpist Bridget Kibbey, called “a marvel” (The New York Times).


CARNEGIE HALL CITYWIDE: THE COOKERS Monday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m. Langston Hughes Auditorium at Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture 515 Malcolm X Boulevard (at 135th Street) | Manhattan “Player for player, there’s no better working band in jazz than The Cookers” (The Boston Globe). A true all-star group, Billy Harper, Donald Harrison, Eddie Henderson, George Cables, Cecil McBee, Billy Hart, and David Weiss give a master class in hard-driving post-bop. With more than a quarter-century of combined experience in jazz, these seven musicians have been part of more than 1,000 recordings. Hard-earned confidence and expertise are evident in every aspect of their art, from their powerful compositions and richly layered ensemble work to the scorching, extended improvisation of each band member.
