About the Artist Alexandre Kantorow has been hailed by critics as the “young tsar of the piano” (Classica) and a “fire-breathing virtuoso with a poetic charm” (Gramophone). In 2019, at the age of 22, he was the first French pianist to win first place and the gold medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition as well as the Grand Prix, awarded only three times before in the competition's history. Mr. Kantorow began his professional career at an early age. At 16, he made his debut at La Folle Journée festival in Nantes, France and, since then, has played with many of the world’s major orchestras. Highlights in recent and future seasons include concerts with the Boston, Montreal, and Pittsburgh symphony orchestras, The Minnesota Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Staatskapelle Berlin, Berliner Philharmoniker, Philharmonia Orchestra, Vienna Symphony, Danish National Symphony, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic as well as tours with the Orchestre National de France, Budapest Festival Orchestra, and Munich Philharmonic amongst others. In recital, Mr. Kantorow appears at major concert halls such as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw in their Master Pianists series, Konzerthaus Berlin, Queen Elizabeth Hall London, Philharmonie de Paris, Bozar in Brussels, Stockholm Konserthus, regularly across Asia and at the most prestigious festivals including La Roque d’Anthéron, Piano aux Jacobins, Verbier Festival, and Klavier-Festival Ruhr. Chamber music is also one of the pianist’s great pleasures and he regularly performs with artists including Victor Julien-Laferrière, Renaud Capuçon, Daniel Lozakovich, and Matthias Goerne. Mr. Kantorow records exclusively for BIS Records. In 2022, he received a double Diapason d’Or for his latest releases of solo works by Brahms and Saint-Saëns’s piano concertos nos. 1 and 2. In 2020, he won the Victoires de la Musique Classique in two categories: Recording of the Year and Instrumental Soloist of the Year.
