Carnegie Hall Presents

The Met Orchestra Chamber Ensemble

Wednesday, May 15, 2024 7:30 PM Weill Recital Hall
The Met Orchestra Chamber Ensemble by Chris Lee
In the intimate Weill Recital Hall, witness Carnegie Hall’s first-ever complete performance of George Walker’s sumptuous First String Quartet. It is an impassioned early piece by the Pulitzer-winning composer, and in its beautiful second movement you will hear the basis of Walker’s most popular work, Lyric for Strings. Also included is Schubert’s octet, the largest of all his chamber works. Comprising six movements, it is a grand yet infrequently performed work, modeled closely—by request—after Beethoven’s crowd-pleasing septet.
