Arlen Hlusko, Cello

Arlen Hlusko is a dynamic and versatile young musician who has performed as soloist and chamber musician across North America, Asia, and Europe. A laureate of several competitions, including Kingsville Young Performers, she has appeared as soloist with such ensembles as Ontario’s National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. As a chamber musician, Arlen has collaborated in performance with Donald Weilerstein, Ida Kavafian, and members of the Guarneri Quartet, Orion String Quartet, and Tokyo String Quartet, among others. She has performed as principal cellist for multiple ensembles, including the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and New York String Orchestra.

Committed to using her music to serve her community, Arlen was a 2015–2016 fellow with ArtistYear and won a 2016 Tarisio Trust Young Artists Grant to present her own interactive chamber music concert series, Philadelphia Performances for Autism. Arlen also performs as a member of the Dolce Suono Ensemble, and collaborates with ensembles such as the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players and the Grammy-winning The Crossing Choir. She has performed with Symphony in C and acted as a teaching artist for Project 440. A native of Canada, Arlen is a recent graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where she held a fellowship from the Jacqueline du Pré Memorial Fund, and studied with Carter Brey and Peter Wiley. As part of her fellowship with Ensemble Connect, Arlen teaches at PS 532 New Bridges Elementary in Brooklyn.
