Below are pre-screening requirements for the 2025–2027 application. Please check back in Summer 2026 for any updated information for the 2027–2029 application.
For All Instruments: The pre-screening listening portion of the audition process will be blind. Panelists will have access to the submitted recordings but not to names or other information about applicants. For this reason, please submit audio recordings only.
Woodwinds, Piano, and Strings
- The following repertoire by instrument:
- Flute: First movement of a Mozart concerto
- Oboe: One movement from a work by J. S. Bach
- Clarinet: First movement of a Mozart or Weber concerto
- Bassoon: First movement of a Mozart or Weber concerto
- Piano: A substantial first movement from a sonata by Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart, or Schubert
- Violin: One movement from an unaccompanied J. S. Bach sonata or partita
- Viola: One movement from a J. S. Bach suite, sonata, or partita
- Cello: One movement from a J. S. Bach suite
- Bass: One movement from a J. S. Bach suite
- A movement from a standard concerto or sonata
- A contrasting movement or brief work of your choice
Brass
- The following repertoire by instrument:
- Horn: First movement from a concerto by Mozart (No. 2, 3, or 4) or R. Strauss
- Trumpet: First movement from a concerto by Haydn or Hummel
- Trombone: First movement (to letter D) of Concertino by Ferdinand David
- A movement or substantial selection from the solo repertoire
- A contrasting movement or brief work of your choice
Percussion
- A 4–5-minute excerpt of a multi-percussion work of your choice
- A 4–5-minute excerpt of a contemporary four-mallet work of your choice
- An etude from Delecluse Douze Etudes
