Audition Material Requirements for Pre-Screening
All applicants must submit four separate audio recording examples. Each selection must be uploaded as a separate file and must be named as follows: ComposerName_Title (e.g. “Brahms_CelloSonataNo2.mp3”)
Woodwinds, Piano, and Strings
- The following repertoire by instrument:
- Flute: First movement of a Mozart concerto
- Oboe: Two contrasting movements from a work or works by J. S. Bach
- Clarinet: First movement of a Mozart or Weber concerto
- Bassoon: First movement of a Mozart or Weber concerto
- Piano: A substantial first movement from a sonata by Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart, or Schubert
- Violin: Two contrasting movements from an unaccompanied J. S. Bach sonata or partita
- Viola: Two contrasting movements from a J. S. Bach suite, sonata, or partita
- Cello: Two contrasting movements from a J. S. Bach suite
- Bass: Two contrasting movements from a J. S. Bach suite
- A movement from a standard concerto or sonata
- A contrasting movement or brief work of your choice
- A movement from a standard work of chamber music (with complete ensemble). Chamber music repertoire must be a trio or larger. If there are multiples of your instrument, please indicate which part you are playing (e.g. first or second violin, clarinet or bass clarinet).
Brass
- The following repertoire by instrument:
- Horn: First movement from a concerto by Mozart (nos. 2, 3 or 4) or R. Strauss
- Trumpet: First movement from a concerto by Haydn or Hummel
- Trombone (tenor): One selection from Eugene Bozza’s Treize Etudes Caprices
- Bass Trombone: One work by Eric Ewazen
- A movement from a standard concerto or sonata
- A contrasting movement or brief work of your choice
- A movement from a standard work of chamber music (with complete ensemble). Chamber music repertoire must be a trio or larger. If there are multiples of your instrument, please indicate which part you are playing (e.g. first or second trumpet).
Percussion
- A 4–5 minute excerpt of a multi-percussion work of your choice
- A 4–5 minute excerpt of a contemporary four-mallet work of your choice
- One selection of your choice from Elliott Carter’s Eight Pieces for Four Timpani
- A movement from a standard work of chamber music (with complete ensemble). Chamber music repertoire must be a trio or larger. If there are multiple percussionists, please indicate which part you are playing.
