Cameron Cullen

Flute

Flutist Cameron Cullen hails from the United Kingdom, where his passion for the flute became clear from a young age. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama under the guidance of Roger Armstrong and Jonathan Burgess, and was also fortunate to study with Paul Edmund-Davies. He began his work as an educator on the music faculty of Wells Cathedral School and maintains a private studio.

After moving to the United States, Cameron completed two master’s degrees with Ransom Wilson at the Yale School of Music, where he was able to learn from the likes of Denis Bouriakov, Gaspar Hoyos, and Tara Helen O’Connor, and was awarded the Thomas Daniel Nyfenger Memorial Prize for excellence in woodwind playing. He has since completed his doctorate with Jennifer Grim at Miami’s Frost School of Music, where his teaching assistantship reignited his love for education.

As a performer, Cameron has appeared at Lincoln Center with the Ebrius Rana Quintet and as principal flute with the Symphony of the Americas, as well as with the Palm Beach Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Florida Chamber Orchestra, and New World Symphony. He won first prize in the Florida Flute Association’s Young Artist Competition and performed Jolivet’s Flute Concerto with the Frost Symphony Orchestra.

As part of his fellowship with Ensemble Connect, Cameron teaches at PS21 Edward Hart in Queens.
