Abby Smith

Violist Abigail Smith is an accomplished and devoted musician with a passion for chamber music and community engagement. She recently completed her graduate studies at the Yale School of Music, where she studied with Ettore Causa. Previously, she attended the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, where she was a student of Paul Coletti, Yura Lee, Teng Li, and Tatjana Masurenko. Abby has collaborated with and performed alongside renowned artists such as Tai Murray, Boris Berman, Ani Kavafian, Serena Canin, and members of the Emerson Quartet. As an educator, she spent the summer of 2023 as a teaching artist at the Morse Summer Music Academy and has mentored students of all ages. She has attended the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Tanglewood Music Center as an orchestral fellow, Gstaad Menuhin Festival and Academy, and the Aspen Music Festival, where she received the New Horizons Fellowship. In her free time, Abby enjoys reading, playing challenging video games, and daydreaming about someday owning a cat.

As part of her fellowship with Ensemble Connect, Abby teaches at MS 180 Dr. Daniel Hale Williams in the Bronx.
